We have a new opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join our Local Government Team in East Sussex.

Our Commission in East Sussex is a partnership between WSP and Balfour Beatty Living Places which started in May 2023. We are looking to build a long-term relationship with the client and to introduce greater resilience to the business so we are looking for am Assistant Project Manager. You will be central to a highly collaborative team in East Sussex. As part of our team, you will deliver Maintenance projects for our client. As Assistant Project Manager, you will join our Highways team, based in the Ringmer Depot, near Lewes, you will adopt WSP’s approach to hybrid working and should expect to be visible to the team and Client in the office for two to three days per week. You’ll work on a range of significant infrastructure projects across the county and also collaborate with resources from other WSP teams nationwide.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will support the successful delivery of highways maintenance and improvement schemes across East Sussex, working closely with project managers, designers, technical specialists, the client and delivery partners.

You will help coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams through feasibility, design and construction support stages, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the agreed scope, programme, budget and quality standards. This will include supporting technical approvals, design reviews, design assurance, CDM, H&S, QA and technical review processes.

You will also play an important role in managing project information, programmes, fees, reporting, stakeholder inputs and commercial processes, while helping to build a stronger and more resilient project management capability within the East Sussex team.

This is a varied role, with responsibilities including:

  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary project and design teams to deliver highways maintenance and improvement schemes through feasibility, design and construction support stages.
  • Working closely with highways, drainage, structures, traffic, construction and other technical specialists to support integrated project delivery.
  • Supporting the management of technical approvals, design reviews, design assurance, CDM, H&S, QA and technical review requirements.
  • Supporting design-related activities where appropriate, including design general arrangement drawings, site measures, Early Risk Reduction reviews, statutory undertaker information and related technical coordination tasks.
  • Monitoring design programmes and managing interfaces between design, client, stakeholder and construction activities.
  • Leading and supporting project management processes, including project planning, scope definition, fee estimates, risk analysis, roles and responsibilities, and regular reporting.
  • Developing project management plans and producing weekly/monthly progress and project control reports for the client and wider business.
  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary inputs across projects, including colleagues in other WSP teams and remote teams in the UK and India.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, colleagues, delivery partners and key stakeholders.
  • Managing project fees, change control, value engineering/value management and the commercial position of assigned projects.
  • Helping ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality, safety and technical standards.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience in managing a range of project management activities, systems and processes.
  • A good understanding of commercial and financial project management.
  • Sound organisational skills and excellent communications skills.
  • Experience in producing programmes using MS Project or similar software.
  • Achieved, or working towards, professional status through the Association for Project Management or similar professional institution.
