As our pathology services continue to grow, we are looking for a Clinical Applications Technical Lead – Pathology to play a pivotal role in the delivery, optimisation and ongoing support of our clinical systems landscape.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical systems professional with strong technical expertise in pathology workflows, LIMS and healthcare integrations. You'll act as the technical authority for pathology applications while helping to shape the wider clinical applications strategy across Medica.
What you'll be doing
As Clinical Applications Technical Lead – Pathology, you will lead the technical design, configuration and optimisation of pathology systems and integrations, ensuring they support safe, efficient and scalable clinical workflows. You'll work closely with clinicians, operational teams, clients and technology partners to deliver innovative solutions that improve service delivery and patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the senior technical subject matter expert for pathology systems and LIMS programmes
- Leading the design, configuration and optimisation of complex clinical applications and workflow integrations
- Supporting system implementation projects, UAT activities, go-live readiness and post-implementation optimisation
- Acting as the escalation point for complex application and integration issues
- Ensuring adherence to clinical governance, information governance and change control processes
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver reliable, compliant and user-focused clinical systems
- Supporting system upgrades, enhancements and future technology roadmaps
- Participating in the clinical systems on-call rota supporting Medica's 24/7 services

What we're looking for
We're seeking a proactive and technically minded professional who enjoys solving complex challenges and can confidently bridge the gap between clinical, operational and technical teams.
Essential experience and skills
- Experience configuring, maintaining and optimising clinical or healthcare IT systems
- Strong understanding of pathology workflows and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as DICOM and HL7
- Experience working with clinical system integrations, interfaces and data flows
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly around system configuration, testing, validation and documentation
- Experience operating within clinical governance and change management frameworks
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively and work independently or as part of a specialist team
Desirable
- Experience providing technical leadership or acting as a senior SME within a clinical systems environment
- Experience delivering or supporting LIMS, PACS, AI or wider healthcare technology implementations
- Knowledge of pathology, radiology or laboratory workflows
- Experience with UAT, go-live planning and post-implementation optimisation
- Familiarity with NICIP, SNOMED CT or other healthcare coding standards
- ITIL Foundation certification
- Healthcare, IT or Computer Science qualifications
