Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary: Starting salary of up to £70,000, commensurate to skills and experience.

About the role

Water underpins everyday life, yet it remains an industry that is still evolving in how it realises value from transformation, digital capability and automation. At Southern Water, that is changing.

We are building a new Process & Intelligent Automation capability at the heart of the organisation. This is not about isolated improvements or standalone technology delivery; it is about ensuring automation, AI and process engineering initiatives are well planned, well governed and deliver clear, measurable value for the business, our customers and regulators.

As Scrum Master, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of automation and process engineering initiatives across Southern Water. Acting as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, you will help shape, plan and coordinate work across automation projects, ensuring requirements are clearly understood, delivery is well managed, and outcomes remain aligned to business priorities.

This is a hands-on delivery role within a new capability, giving you the opportunity to help establish how automation projects are planned, prioritised and delivered across the organisation. You will support Agile ways of working, facilitate Scrum ceremonies, manage sprint planning and retrospectives, and ensure progress, risks and dependencies are clearly tracked and communicated.

Reporting into the Process & Intelligent Automation team, you will work closely with business functions, technology teams, architecture, developers and wider stakeholders to support the delivery of automation and process engineering solutions. This may include work across Power Automate, Power Apps, Copilot, ARIS and other automation or process improvement tools.

This role goes beyond traditional project coordination. It is about helping to create a structured, collaborative and outcome-focused delivery approach that enables automation and process improvement to scale safely and effectively across Southern Water.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading project planning and delivery activity across automation and process engineering initiatives.
  • Creating and maintaining key project documentation, including Process Definition Documents, process maps, SOPs and supporting materials.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders, technology teams, architecture and developers to align on requirements, priorities and deliverables.
  • Managing Agile and Scrum delivery activity, including sprint planning, retrospectives and tracking progress through tools such as Jira and Monday.com.
  • Supporting SRE and DevOps ways of working to help ensure automation delivery is well controlled, visible and continuously improved.
  • Evaluating and communicating automation capabilities, identifying opportunities to use tools such as Power Automate, Power Apps and Copilot.
  • Coordinating with developers to support the timely delivery of process engineering and automation solutions.
  • Monitoring project risks, timelines and budgets, providing clear updates and helping to resolve issues or blockers.
  • Facilitating continuous improvement across delivery processes, ways of working and stakeholder engagement.
  • Supporting the growth of Southern Water’s automation and process engineering capability by helping to embed consistent, effective delivery practices.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Essential

  • Experience leading automation, technology, process improvement or digital delivery projects using Agile methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills, with good knowledge of Agile, Scrum, SRE and DevOps ways of working.
  • Experience facilitating Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between business and technical teams.
  • Experience using project delivery and tracking tools such as Jira, Monday.com or similar.
  • Ability to manage project risks, timelines, dependencies and delivery updates in a structured and clear way.
  • Good understanding of automation tools and capabilities, such as Power Automate, Power Apps or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting process mapping, requirements gathering and delivery documentation.
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to assess automation feasibility, process improvement opportunities and delivery priorities.
  • Confidence working with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, developers, architecture and technology teams.

Desirable

  • Scrum Master certification, Certified Scrum Master, SAFe Practitioner, PMP or similar project delivery qualification.
  • Experience working with process engineering tools and methodologies, such as ARIS or CMMI.
  • Experience creating Process Definition Documents, SOPs, process maps or business cases.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, governance, secure delivery practices and risk management within automation projects.
  • Experience within a regulated environment, ideally utilities, water or critical national infrastructure.
  • Experience administering or configuring Jira, Monday.com or similar delivery management tools.
  • Understanding of automation integrations and how automation solutions move from discovery through to delivery and continuous improvement.
